Resumen:

En el presente estudio, se determinó la prevalencia de Sarcocystis spp. en músculo estriado de corazón, diafragma y lengua de 400 cerdos beneficiados en los Mataderos Industrial Centroccidental (Octubre 2004-Diciembre 2004) y Yacambú (Enero 2004 - Marzo 2005) del estado Lara. Los resultados revelaron una prevalencia de 1% en cerdos beneficiados en el Matadero Industrial Centroccidental, a diferencia del Matadero Yacambú donde se obtuvo una prevalencia de 11,5%, con una diferencia altamente significativa (P<0,01) entre ambos mataderos. Esta diferencia de resultados probablemente se deba a que los animales beneficiados en el Matadero Yacambú proceden en su mayoría de unidades de explotaciones no intensivas. Por otra parte, el tejido muscular más afectado fue la lengua (P<0,01) y El 81,5% de los tejidos positivos mostraron entre 1 y 2 quistes por corte.

Abstract:

In the present study was determined the prevalence of Sarcocystis spp in grooved muscle of heart, diaphragm and tongue from 400 pigs sacrificed in the Industrial Slaughterhouses Centroccidental from October 2004 until December 2004 and Yacambú from January 2005 until March 2005 of the Lara State. The results revealed a prevalence of 1% in pigs sacrificed in the Industrial Slaughterhouse Centroccidental, opposite with the Slaughterhouse Yacambú where a prevalence of 11.5% was obtained with a highly significant difference (p <0.01) between both slaughterhouses. This difference could be probably due to that most of animals sacrificed in the Slaughterhouse Yacambú came from non intensive production farms. The tissue more affected was tongue (P<0.01). Likewise, the 81.5% of the positive samples showed 1 or 2 cysts of the Sarcocystis spp per slide.
